The Grey Silver Dorking Chicken

is a special breed with a rich history and is currently considered endangered1. Here’s some detailed information about this breed:

Origin: The Dorking Chicken is one of the oldest known chicken breeds, possibly dating back to 43 AD. It gained popularity when it was brought to England by the Romans1.
Appearance: The Dorking is a stout breed used for both meat and eggs. They are known to have shorter legs than other large breeds, and their stockiness makes them an ideal meat breed1. The Dorking comes in white and silver-grey color varieties1. The Silver Grey Dorking should have a silver-white neck and saddle, free from straw tinge or any markings. Under the wings, the bird has lustrous black with green or blue gloss.
Size: Weighing in at around 8lbs, the Dorking is a hefty meat chicken1. They have a long back with a broad breast.

Egg Production: Hens will produce a good amount of eggs, enough to keep up with some of your decent laying hens.
Temperament: They are quiet, gentle, and peaceful. They make a quiet squeaking, peeping noise when foraging and are content. They are mild-mannered and can be shy but are easy to tame.

This breed needs the support of backgarden chicken breeders before they are gone for good. If you’re interested in raising chickens, the Grey Silver Dorking could be a great addition to your flock!

Color of Egg: Dorkings are good layers with around 150 to 200 eggs per year. Most Dorking hens will go broody, make good mothers and are quite docile.
